East-West Center Delegation Visited South Asian Countries

Sigdel, a journalist based in Kathmandu, was an EWC fellow from Nepal for the Asia Pacific Leadership Program 2008/09.

As part of the East-West Center’s move to strengthen its ties with Nepal and other South Asian countries and to prepare grounds for the Center’s 50th anniversary in 2010, an EWC delegation completed its four-day visit to Nepal from Sept. 12 to Sept. 15, 2009.

The delegation, which arrived in Kathmandu on Sept. 12, 2009 completing its similar programs in Dhaka, Bangladesh, organized and participated in number programs among EWC alumni and other prospective students and researches in Kathmandu.

Dr. Shankar P. Sharma (OG 79-83, RSI 83-86) appointed Nepalese Ambassador to the United States

Congratulations to Dr. Sharma on his appointment as Nepalese Ambassador to the United States by the Government of Nepal this August 3rd, 2009.

Dr. Sharma is the President of the EWCA Nepal Chapter with headquarters in Kathmandu. He is a prominent economist and former Hon. Vice-Chairman of the Planning Commission in Nepal.


Karen Knudsen (EWC Director of External Affairs) and Mary Hammond (EWC Dean of Students) are planning to visit Kathmandu in September 2009 and will be meeting with representatives of the EWCA Nepal (Kathmandu) Chapter to talk about the chapter’s plans for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the East-West Center in July 2010 and congratulate Dr. Sharma on his distinguished appointment.
