An East-West Center Gathering in South Asia

The East-West Center will hold its International Media Conference in New Delhi, India on September 8-11, 2016 with the theme “South Asia Looking East.” The Center’s last International Media Conference was held in Yangon, Myanmar in 2014 and drew more than 400 attendees including journalists, policymakers, business professionals and EWC alumni.

EWC Media Alumnus Finalist for Livingston Award

Tim Higgins (Photo Credit: Detroit Free Press)Business Writer for the Detroit Free Press, Tim Higgins (EWSem 10) has been announced as one of the finalists for the 2010 Livingston Awards for Young Journalists. The Livingston Award, the nation’s largest all-media award, provides three $10,000 prizes for Local, National, and International Reporting to journalists under the age of 35.

The winners will be announced later on this year.

Tim was selected as finalist for the Livingston Awards for a story that he wrote about a trip to Jakarta that he took in 2010.

Jefferson Fellowship Alumna Reports on China’s Fight Against Acid Rain

Christina Larson participated in the Jefferson Fellowship Program in 2007 and is a is a journalist focusing on international environmental issues, based in Beijing and Washington, D.C.  Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, The New Republic, The Washington Monthly, and Foreign Policy, where she is a contributing editor.

On October 28, 2010 she published a report on Yale Environment 360, a publication from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

In this report she points that there are indications of a growing movement to establish a culture of pollution monitoring and control in China. Christina includes in the article important insights from Zhang Zhongxiang, an adjunct professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Peking University and a Fellow at the East-West Center.

EWC Media Alumni Chapter co-Leader Wins Award from AAJA

Craig Gima (Jefferson Fellow 01, EWSem 08), co-leader of the EWCA Media Alumni Chapter, was named one of 2 national Members of the Year at the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) national convention on August 2010.

Craig is Assistant City Editor at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. He co-won with Lisa Chun from San Jose, CA for their work in helping to free detained U.S. reporters Roxanna Saberi from Iran and Euna Lee and Lisa Ling from North Korea.
