Tibet Trekking Tour after the EWC/EWCA International Conference in Beijing

Join the Tibet  (Himalayas Everest Base Camp) 12-Day Trekking Tour and support  EWC Scholarships

Dates:  September 4 to 15, 2012

Organized by Jean (Eng) Geer (CLI 78-79), jsgeer@wavecable.com

Ever since I trekked the Himalaya of Nepal to the South Face Everest Base Camp, trekking the Himalaya of Tibet to the North Face Everest Base Camp has been a top “to do in this life.” The Himalaya range is magnificent and the North Face of Mount Everest is described as spectacular. Gary McCue in his book, Trekking Tibet shared: “Nowhere in the Himalaya can the immense height of Mount Everest (29,035 ft, 8850 m) the highest point on Earth, be appreciated as it can be in Tibet. . . . The North Face is arguably its most spectacular side, a sheer wall of rock and ice rising over 2 vertical miles (3.7 km) . . . “

I contacted Tselo Thar (contact/tour coordinator for the Travel to Tibet and Support EWC Scholarships post-conference tour) about setting up a trekking tour for Tibet to key sites around Lhasa and along the route to the Everest Base Camp. Tselo kindly agreed to work with me to set up a small group 12-day trekking tour, September 4 to 15.  The trekking tour includes four-wheel drive Toyotas for the drive to sites around Lhasa and to and from the Everest Base Camp (EBC.) The tour includes optional day treks (walks) in and around towns, lakes, glaciers, monasteries, etc.  Participants during site visits have the option to choose easy to challenging treks (walks.)* As examples, walk sites include:  Potala Palace, Lhasa Old Town, Ganden Monastery, Yamdrok Lake (one of three holy lakes in Tibet,) Tashihunpo Monastery, Shigaste Local Market, Everest Base Camp, Rongbuk Glacier, etc. The Tour Guide will give suggestions where to go for trekking at the sites. The Day by Day Itinerary with tour details can be viewed via the following link: http://tourintotibet.blogspot.com/

The Tibet Trekking Tour is set up for at least 2. If 2 – 3 persons are on the tour, there will be one Toyota four-wheel vehicle, if there are 4-6, there will be two Toyota four-wheel drive vehicles. The price for the tour based on double occupancy is $2,260 and includes ground transportation in Tibet, accommodations, some meals, English-speaking guide, Tibet Visa and Mt. Everest permit, and . . . $100.00 donation per traveler/person for the EWC Alumni Student Endowment Fund. Reservation deadline for the Tibet Trekking Tour is 6/30/2012.

*Note: Trekking in Tibet is at high altitude, but can be done comfortably by average healthy and prepared individuals of all ages. Yes, high altitude needs to be considered and preparations taken, but adapting to high altitude is not dependent on age.

Please contact Tselo Thar to make reservations, if you have questions about the tour, and/or need additional information. Tselo Thar, Tour into Tibet contact information: info@tourintotibet.com – 1-877-630-7955.
