Congratulations to Peter Nunan (ISI 66-68)!

The current Vice President of EWCA Brisbane Chapter has been awarded the Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia in the General Division for service to the community as a volunteer with maritime and geographical organizations.
Peter’s work as volunteer includes:
- Volunteer Researcher, Queensland Maritime Museum, since 1994; Board Member, for 2 years.
- Volunteer, Royal Geographical Society of Queensland, since 1994; Fellow, since 2008.
- Inaugural Treasurer, Brisbane Chapter, East-West Center Alumni Association, since 2005; Member, since 1970.
- Current Committee Member, Australian Geography Competition, from its inauguration.
- Volunteer, 4MBS Classic FM, since 1994.
The official press release of the Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia in the General Division also praised his literary work, which includes:
- Author, HMAS Diamantina: Australia’s last River Class Frigate (1945-80), published in 2005.
- Co-Author (with David Jones), Master Mariner – The Story of Captain Harold Chesterman, published in 2009.
- Co-Author (with David Jones), US Subs Down Under – Brisbane 1942-45, published in 2005.
In an interview with Quest Newspapers, he expressed his reaction to the medal: “When I retired at 55 I was looking for something to do, and I like the Maritime Museum so I volunteered for them I’ve been volunteering ever since, ” he said. “I’ve got so much enjoyment out it, the medal is like the icing on the cake.”
