Greetings from Tokyo, Japan!
The Tokyo Chapter hosted a Mid-Summer Aloha Party in commemoration of EWC’s 50th anniversary on July 31. 35 alumni and their family members participated in the party in Hotel Grand Palace whose CEO is Mr. Hisao Otsuka, an alumnus of EWC back in 1970.
In the party, Mr. Shigeo Tonoike, the Chapter’s vice president, reported what was 50th anniversary conference in Honolulu like, by showing slides. One of the slides showed that Mr. Tonoike presented to Mr. Gary Yoshida a 8,000 dollar check which was raised by Tokyo Chapter as a token of appreciation to East West Center on the occasion of the 50th anniversary.
The party also had other events, including hula dance and ukulele performances and door prize drawings for 50th anniversary commemorative goods, such as Aloha shirts and T shirts, bought and brought back by Mrs. Kazuko Tonoike. The party was full of Hawaiian atmosphere with these performances and goods. Everybody enjoyed it. The party ended with singing Aloha Oe in chorus, like the final night of the EWC Honolulu Conference.
