Members of the community are invited to attend the Asia Pacific launch of State of the World’s Cities 2010/2011: Bridging the Urban Divide, a flagship report published by UN-HABITAT, the United Nations’ human settlements program. This biennial report provides information on urban conditions, emerging policies, best practices and trends around the world. Dr. Eduardo López Moreno, Chief of UN-HABITAT’s State of the World’s Cities Section will discuss the report as well as highlights from the Fifth World Urban Forum—the world’s premier conference on cities—in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (March 22-26).
Dr. Eduardo Lopez Moreno is Chief of the State of the World’s Cities Section, UN-HABITAT headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. With over 20 years of academic and professional experience in housing and urban development policies, institutional analysis and urban poverty alleviation issues, Dr. Moreno currently serves as the Principal Author of the State of the World’s Cities Report 2006/7, 2008/9, and 2010/11. He has written an extensive number of publications including five books on topics related to social housing, land policies and urban development, and worked as a consultant in various development projects in Latin America, the Caribbean Region and Africa. Dr. Moreno has a bachelor’s degree in architecture, and a master’s degree in urban sociology from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, and a PhD in urban geography from the University of Paris III-Sorbonne in France.
