Recent Tragedies in Asia

Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of those affected by the recent tragedies in both Myanmar and China. Our thoughts are with the EWCA alumni and their families, along with everyone in the region and hope for a speedy recovery.

For those who would like to contribute to the relief effort in these areas there are several organizations accepting donations including, but not limited to: Mercy Corps, World Vision, Direct Relief International, and Operation USA. Please see their websites for more information.

  1. As a geographer and having been married to a physical oceanographer, the issue of global warming strikes me as a lot of misplaced hype based on climatological ignorance and a continuing lack of accountability in people’s misuse of their environment. Their “pet theory” attempts to pass the buck and blame the successful economies, such as USA and Europe that are actually making strides on water and air contanimation, plus recycling, thereby minimizing their negative effect on environment while rest of world is pronounced “innocent”. Sadly too few individuals, including reporters, are aware of solar cycles and solar system cycles. Nor is credit given to God for being in control of this earth and universe and for keeping humankind alive these many centuries in spite of human behavior. RE accountability by humans, just consider the desertification that is due to overgrazing, deforestation for fuel and inappropriate land use in general. Are there massive efforts to change those behaviors? Where are the ethical leaders in those countries?
